Karate Kid: Legends (2025) Michael A. Smith The martial arts scenes are spectacularly done, with some amazing choreography. Chan is 71 – Macchio is 63 – but they both move like they are in their prime.

One of Them Days (2025) Michael A. Smith The film also serves as a great reminder that the Honey Butter Biscuits at Church’s Chicken are worth fighting for.

Into the Deep (2025) Michael A. Smith And what a great bit of casting to have Mr. Dreyfuss in the cast. He has always had a way of holding the audience with just his words, and as we listen to his advice, shown through flashbacks, you hang on every word.

Love Hurts (2025) Michael A. Smith If you’ve ever seen an interview with Quan, you know that he is a very likable person, and that personality fits Marvin to a tee.

The Brutalist (2024) Michael A. Smith The film is also propelled by it’s Academy Award nominated musical score, as well as the greatest selection of mid-century standards since, well, “L.A. Confidential.”

Novocaine (2025) Michael A. Smith The action scenes are top notch, if not a little over the top. I mean, sure you can’t feel someone smash your head into a wall but you should at least stumble a little, right?

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning (2025) Michael A. Smith ...this film is ana amazing way to kick the summer off with a bang! I definitely recommend that you accept this mission.

Better Man (2024) Michael A. Smith Not since the “South Park” movie has there been a more innovative film musical.

A Complete Unknown (2024) Michael A. Smith Chalamet, who not only embodies Dylan in speech patterns and mannerisms but does his own singing, channels the rebellious energy that made Dylan a folk hero. As I told the studio rep after the screening, “give that kid the Oscar now.”

Mufasa: The Lion King (2024) Michael A. Smith Beautifully rendered (this is by far the best live-action/animated film I’ve ever seen)

3.5/5
Kraven the Hunter (2024) Michael A. Smith Action packed from beginning to end, “Kraven the Hunter” is an unapologetic film where the nastier they bad guys fall, the happier the hero becomes.

Moana 2 (2024) Michael A. Smith Overall, while younger children may be frightened by some of the images, the older ones (my two grandchildren included) should have a fun time.

Gladiator II (2024) Michael A. Smith On my short list of film directors who criminally have never won an Academy Award for their work, Ridley Scott is right at the top.

Wicked (2024) Michael A. Smith But it’s the music that makes “Wicked” what it is, and each and every song are presented magnificently.

Red One (2024) Michael A. Smith Overall, I recommend you get in your sleigh and head out over the river and through the woods to see “Red One.”

5/5
The Wild Robot (2024) Michael A. Smith The story is a cross between “The Iron Giant” and “E.T.,” with love for others over oneself the message that is being delivered. And it is one that should resonate with everyone.

Megalopolis (2024) Michael A. Smith Visually the film is breathtaking, and it is here that Coppola shines. The man has fourteen Academy Award nominations and five Oscars and his place in the history of cinema is assured.

Saturday Night (2024) Michael A. Smith The film is well paced and the jokes hit hard and often. It took me back to a time when there were only three television channels and you could get a burger, fries and drink at McDonalds for a dollar. Really.

The Apprentice (2024) Michael A. Smith Like him or not, Donald Trump is a force to be reckoned with, though I think I can say with a great deal of certainty that he will not be a fan of “The Apprentice.”

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024) Michael A. Smith The script is hilarious, but not afraid to throw in a couple of thrills and Burton’s pacing is pitch perfect. This is Burton’s best work since 2007’s “Sweeney Todd” and ranks up there with “Batman’ and “Ed Wood” as among his best films ever.

Slingshot (2024) Michael A. Smith As the story progresses the audience is almost as confused as those on board the Odyssey 1, not knowing what is real and what isn’t.

Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) Michael A. Smith Yes, it’s raunchy. Yes, it’s bloody. But it also one of the best films of the year.

Boneyard (2024) Michael A. Smith The film is well cast, with Gibson and Van Holt leading the way.

The Beach Boys (2024) Michael A. Smith But despite the ups and downs, the music continues and it is the music that will endear us to the band for as long as we have music.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024) Michael A. Smith When you’re done doing what I’m doing – humming the “Bad Boys” song in your head – take a trip to the local cinema and say hello to Lowery and Burnett. You won’t be disappointed.

Inside Out 2 (2024) Michael A. Smith The animation, as to be expected, is brilliantly rendered and the story smart and captivating. While it doesn’t pack the emotional wallop of “IF,” it’s still a great film to take the fmily to.

Despicable Me 4 (2024) Michael A. Smith Illumination Studios continues to equal, if not occasionally surpass, Pixar as the leader in animated films and “Despicable Me 4” is no exception.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (2024) Michael A. Smith Not sure if Murphy will ever revisit Axel Foley again but if this film is any indication, it would be a most welcome return.

Monkey Man (2024) Michael A. Smith I will note that the film is quite brutal in some of it’s depictions of violence so be prepared to squirm in your seat a little. But squirm away because I can guarantee you this isn’t the last time you’ll see Patel behind the camera.

Maestro (2023) Michael A. Smith On a positive note, the performances are excellent. Cooper channels Bernstein down to his voice patterns. Mulligan carries most of the emotional baggage of the film and never delivers a false note.

Bob Marley: One Love (2024) Michael A. Smith Thanks to the hard work of Ziggy Marley, “Bob Marley: One Love” is a loving and inspiring tribute to a man who left this world much too soon. But his music, and his message, lives on.

Dicks: The Musical (2023) Michael A. Smith A fun, hilarious comedy, “Dicks: The Musical” is best described as “a fun and raucous Parent Trap.” And that’s a good thing.

The Marvels (2023) Michael A. Smith Even with wall-to-wall action, “The Marvels” feels almost formulaic in its story.

Killers of the Flower Moon (2023) Michael A. Smith A sprawling epic, “Killers of the Flower Moon” boasts award winning performances by the three leads, who breathe life into characters that would come off as two dimensional in the hands of lesser actors.

The Burial (2023) Michael A. Smith Buoyed by stellar work from Foxx and Jones (both former Oscar winners), the film is full of strong performances.

MR-9: Do or Die (2023) Michael A. Smith The performances are strong and Akbar’s pacing spot on. Like “MI: Dead Reckoning,” the extended running time moves quickly. Another thing in common – there is more to this adventure to come.

The Baker (2022) Michael A. Smith As summer winds down, and you are overwhelmed by all of the “Barbieheimer” social media posts, I recommend taking the time to seek out “The Baker.” It “rises” to the occasion.

Tiger Within (2020) Michael A. Smith Though the film is not rated, it does deal with some serious issues. But it is the handling of those issues, and Asner’s performance, that make this film a must see!

2.5/5
Creed III (2023) Michael A. Smith Unfortunately he didn’t spend enough time on character development, and the audience is stuck with one-dimensional character that don’t have a redeeming bone in their bodies, which is a shame for a franchise that earned it’s love by opening its heart.

3.5/5
Man and Witch: The Dance of a Thousand Steps (2024) Michael A. Smith Smartly written, with strong performances, “Man & Witch” could easily be described as “SHREK meets ‘The Princess Bride’” with a little bit of “The Wizard of Oz” tossed in for good measure.
