CODA (2021) Emily Tannenbaum This coming-of-age story about a child of Deaf adults exploring her passion for singing will make you laugh, cry, and call your mom.

Yes, God, Yes (2019) Emily Tannenbaum God, I wish I'd seen Yes, God, Yes when I was a teen.

I Care a Lot (2020) Emily Tannenbaum What do you get when you mix the psychopathy of Gone Girl's Amy Dunne, the dehumanizing capitalism of American Psycho, and the sapphic energy of A Simple Favor? Probably something akin to Netflix's deliciously dark comedy I Care a Lot.

Palm Springs (2020) Emily Tannenbaum The chemistry between Samberg and Milioti shines through in one of the funniest, absurdly charming movies of 2020.

Love, Gilda (2018) Christopher Rosa Gilda Radner's life story is told through diaries, videotapes, and testimonies from her family and friends in this moving documentary.

Chelsea Handler: Uganda Be Kidding Me Live (2014) Lynsey Eidell Seeing Chelsea in this format-no frills, no celeb guests, and, most of all, no filters-has to be my favorite. It gives her the freedom to focus solely on what she does best, and that is shocking us into hysterical, tears-streaming, face-hurting laughter.

Fighting With My Family (2019) Jill Gutowitz Just like every great sports movie, Fighting With My Family takes us on an emotional roller coaster of getting knocked down, peeling yourself off the floor, and showing the world what you're made of.
Posted Mar 19, 2019Edit critic review
A Simple Favor (2018) Christopher Rosa The film is a bizarre mix of humor and soapy drama that has enough camp to keep you entertained until the bananas ending. Think Gone Girl meets Gossip Girl with a dash of Big Little Lies.
Posted Oct 10, 2018Edit critic review
Night School (2018) Christopher Rosa Expect lots of funny slapstick bits and a dynamic energy between Haddish and Hart.
Posted Oct 10, 2018Edit critic review
Beautiful Boy (2018) Christopher Rosa Steve Carell and Timothée Chalamet star as the father-son duo that will break your heart.
Posted Oct 10, 2018Edit critic review
Peppermint (2018) Christopher Rosa Taken gets a feminist twist.
Posted Oct 10, 2018Edit critic review
Assassination Nation (2018) Anna Moeslein Assassination Nation overall feels like you're watching a YouTube video drunk on Four Loko. Or like Heathers, The Purge, and The Crucible all merged into one Instagram Story about naked selfies.
Posted Sep 21, 2018Edit critic review
Hannah Gadsby: Nanette (2018) Sofia Barrett-Ibarria Gadsby forces her audience to bear witness to her pain and her rage, and is a massive victory for funny, angry women-those who are pissed off, who want revenge, who want our abusers to feel the same way they made us feel.

Eighth Grade (2018) Samantha Leach I had to cover my eyes during some these scenes because they were so relatable.
Posted Jul 13, 2018Edit critic review
I Feel Pretty (2018) Jill Gutowitz Calling I Feel Pretty anything but feminist should be a crime, punishable by getting dragged on Twitter.
Posted Apr 19, 2018Edit critic review
Unsane (2018) Christopher Rosa What we see is exactly what survivors describe feeling every day. The movie puts physical, tangible images to abstract concepts. It puts a face to a feeling, and quite literally shows the abject horror of when a woman isn't believed

Love, Simon (2018) Christopher Rosa That's the beauty-and brilliance-of Love, Simon: It illustrates how the fears, doubts, and anxieties about coming out are universal for everyone, no matter your sex, gender, appearance, or background.
Posted Mar 16, 2018Edit critic review
Blade Runner 2049 (2017) Jill Gutowitz Too often, female characters function as plot devices to motivate the male protagonists, and the majority of the women of Blade Runner 2049 are used and disposed of as such.

Arrival (2016) Elizabeth Logan Like the aliens, the conversation around moral motherhood is something our society is, frankly, unprepared to face. And it's something we have to deal with nonetheless. So, see Arrival, if only to consider these paradoxes for its 116 minute run.
Posted Mar 07, 2018Edit critic review
Molly's Game (2017) Jill Gutowitz What I found most invigorating about this film was this celebration of female imperfection and failure.
Posted Mar 07, 2018Edit critic review
Fifty Shades Freed (2018) Jill Gutowitz Fifty Shades doesn't care what you think, and that's something I can get behind.
Posted Mar 07, 2018Edit critic review
Grace of Monaco (2014) Megan Angelo I perfected my "regret" face roughly 25 minutes into this hot mess. Good night, and good luck.
Posted Mar 07, 2018Edit critic review
I, Tonya (2017) Elizabeth Greenwood Margot Robbie serves an Oscar-worthy performance, reveling in Harding's contradictions: her raw talent and self-sabotage, the unfair aspersions cast upon her, and her unwillingness to admit responsibility.
Posted Mar 07, 2018Edit critic review
Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) Jessica Radloff Rey is talented and complex-everything you'd want a female character to be. She's self-sufficient, but not afraid to ask for help. She's vulnerable and empathetic, but not a cookie-cutter mold of what Hollywood traditionally thinks females want to see.
Posted Mar 07, 2018Edit critic review
Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) Caitlin Moscatello The true strength of director George Miller's latest Mad Max movie is that it's an authentic action flick with feminist overtones, and not the other way around...Mad Max: Fury Road doesn't take on just sexism but also ageism.

What Happened to Monday (2017) Christopher Rosa This is a dystopian movie, if you couldn't tell, and it's a good one. It's also a movie about survival and determination and sisterhood-seven sisters, specifically.
Posted Mar 07, 2018Edit critic review
Meadowland (2015) Kate Branch I walked out of the theater feeling an urgency to call everyone in my life that mattered to me and tell them how much I love them.
Posted Mar 07, 2018Edit critic review
Bleeding Heart (2015) Alexandra Schwartz The movie is a struggle between feeling like you have no way out versus trying to find that way out even when it seems impossible. The take-home here? Having the freedom of choice is a powerful thing.
Posted Mar 07, 2018Edit critic review
Uncle Howard (2016) Kate Branch It's such an inspiring and uplifting-not to mention downright cool-portrait of another man's hero.
Posted Mar 07, 2018Edit critic review
Suited (2016) Kate Branch The characters-a lawyer, a groom, a young boy who is getting barmitzvah'd-are incredible, and their individual obstacles, from being taken seriously at work to having never looked in the mirror and liking what they saw-are deeply touching.
Posted Mar 07, 2018Edit critic review
Frank & Lola (2016) Kate Branch What unravels is an incredibly intoxicating game of cat-and-mouse. And did I say sexy? Very sexy, too.
Posted Mar 07, 2018Edit critic review
Yoga Hosers (2016) Kate Branch It's actually incredibly feminist and totally fun to watch.
Posted Mar 07, 2018Edit critic review
Antibirth (2016) Kate Branch It's super bloody, super trippy, but at least it's not another zombie or werewolves flick like everything else is on TV.
Posted Mar 07, 2018Edit critic review
Lovesong (2016) Kate Branch It's not oversaturated with dialogue or sex or any other bag of tricks typically used to tell this kind of love story. Instead, the audience is often left alone with Keough, vulnerable in her sadness and hesitation to live life the way she wants to.
Posted Mar 07, 2018Edit critic review
Sing Street (2016) Kate Branch It's hilarious, sweet, sad, and literally had the audience clapping song after song.
Posted Mar 07, 2018Edit critic review
Tallulah (2016) Kate Branch Icing on the cake is Allison Janney, who under false pretenses takes in Page's character and the baby and is as crazy and lovable as ever. Thank God Netflix snatched this one up!
Posted Mar 07, 2018Edit critic review
Gleason (2016) Kate Branch While there are moments in the film when the audience, together, was uncontrollably balling-and I mean wailing-a lot of the film is full of hope and laughter too.
Posted Mar 07, 2018Edit critic review
Love & Friendship (2016) Kate Branch What's possibly most joyous to watch is the Mean Girls-like relationship between Lady Susan and her friend, played by Chloe Sevigny. There is a reason Amazon already snatched this one up.
Posted Mar 07, 2018Edit critic review
47 Meters Down (2017) Christopher Rosa ... it's popcorn entertainment at its finest-bonkers, thrilling, and 100 percent satisfying.
Posted Mar 07, 2018Edit critic review
The Fundamentals of Caring (2016) Kate Branch It's a road trip story at its finest, and Rudd, who plays a retired writer turned caregiver, saves the day at almost every wrong turn. Have tissues ready when you watch.
Posted Mar 07, 2018Edit critic review
Manchester by the Sea (2016) Kate Branch Manchester by the Sea just put Casey Affleck in a whole new category.
Posted Mar 07, 2018Edit critic review
Fifty Shades Darker (2017) Elizabeth Logan I'm not asking for Casablanca here, but if you're going to do a plotless movie with, essentially, music videos, maybe just lean into it like Magic Mike XXL or La La Land did?
Posted Mar 07, 2018Edit critic review
To the Bone (2017) De Elizabeth Watching To the Bone was a powerful and emotional experience for a lot of reasons.
Posted Mar 07, 2018Edit critic review
Dirty Dancing (2017) Christopher Rosa The film does a good job exploring the psychological nuances of these storylines while still remaining fun, lighthearted, and-yes-incredibly cheesy.
