Boys Don't Cry (1999) David Steinberg Scene after scene takes place on several emotional levels at once, with love, hate, confusion, courage, yearning, hopelessness, strength, and desperation all thrown into the mix.

Transamerica (2005) Veronica Vera The filmmakers' priority was to tell a good story: their commitment was to a movie, not a movement. In truth, they did honor to both.

The World According to Garp (1982) Haley Tiresius There is art and subtlety in the role [of Roberta] as it is written for the movie; and there is artistry and subtlety in the way the role is acted by John Lithgow.

Dressed to Kill (1980) Haley Tiresius From my point of view, Dressed To Kill is not only a generally pernicious film, it is also a film which presents a serious threat to an already misunderstood minority.

Sunflowers (1996) Andrew Matzner One of the strengths of this documentary is that it doesn't shy away from presenting the ambiguity which informs community attitudes toward bakla.

To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar (1995) Rebecca Bell-Metereau To Wong Foo itself struck me as a confused movie. The film had its heart in the right place in that it was trying to make popular audiences like these characters. But in the process of trying to normalize them, it removed all their sexuality.

Venus of Mars (2003) Britt Brittaen Compelling and honest.

The Birdcage (1996) Allyson Ann Allante If you haven't seen Birdcage, check it out on video, or better yet, get gussied up and see it in a theater. Either way, realize and appreciate the very symbolic general public acceptance of the transgender phenomenon (and YOU) this film represents.

Just Like a Woman (1992) Heidi This is an enjoyable, entertaining film, reasonably plausible and, therefore, much worth viewing.
