Huntin P @PaxVobiscum80 Sep 22, 2026 Aliens (1986) is better than Alien (1979). It has a far better script, is better acted, makes more sense, a bigger budget, looks far better, and superior special effects. It is this movie, not the original, that stamped Ripley onto the minds and memories of all men (the women, alas remain oblivious) as a true and admirable heroine. I wouldn't be surprised if rentals of Aliens have surged since the Lindsay Clancy affair. Ripley, in terms of character and plot, is the model for doing a heroine's journey story. She, naturally, doesn't want to go back and face her nemesis, not after the nightmare of Alien (1979). But she knows that not only does she have a human duty to use her experience to guide the marines who are going out there, she also will never be free of the nightmare if she doesn't face her terror once more. Ripley is an example of the best kind of leader, the Emergent Leader, the one who takes charge because no-one else can, not out of any lust for power. Bravo! See more Gary B @RT52578447 Sep 10, 2026 It's amazing how this movie holds up 40 years after its release. There is almost nothing about it that seems dated. In fact, it's on a superior level. Recent action movies rely on on CGI and animation, and look flat and fake compared to this masterpiece. Every scene seems like it's really happening, in no small part thanks to Sigourney Weaver's riveting performance. They don't make them like this anymore, folks. Enjoy. Cheers to this generation of horror!
