See more Marcus T @MarcusT12 Jan 2 This movie started out well enough and had lots of laughs. Kelly LeBrock brought a lot of energy and charisma to her character and made it fun to watch. It started to lose steam about halfway through and devolved into the usual teen movie cliches. Lisa turned into a super hero/ magician who could do anything, which didn't square with the original pretext for her being there. The script started to fall apart. I'd say it's still worth a watch for some laughs. Just keep your expectations low. See more keven q @kevenquinlan Dec 28 Ok, I love Hughes and I'm FROM the 80's. Saw it in the theatre's. It wasn't very good, even than, and is more wretched with time, now in 2025. I don't collect someone just b/c of who they are- but this was a stinker for Hughes. By today’s standards, the premise is extremely problematic, as the film portrays an adult woman interacting with underage boys in ways that are undeniably uncomfortable. Watching it in 2025, it’s clear that the storyline hasn’t aged gracefully. That said, for its time, Weird Science worked perfectly within the context of 1980s comedy. It’s funny, campy, and unapologetically over-the-top – exactly the kind of humor that made many 80s films cult classics. Its audacity to push boundaries is part of what has allowed it to endure while many modern films fade into obscurity for playing it too safe. Kelly LeBrock’s performance as Lisa is iconic. She brings comedy, charm, and undeniable sex appeal to the role, keeping the film entertaining despite its uncomfortable premise. LeBrock’s presence elevates the material, making Lisa memorable beyond the problematic elements of the story. Robert Downey Jr. also makes an early, memorable appearance as a teenager, playing a self-centered and arrogant character with confidence. However, the true highlights are Anthony Michael Hall and Ilan Mitchell-Smith, who portray Gary and Wyatt. Their chemistry is undeniable, and the joy they clearly had on set translates into genuinely engaging performances. Their comedic timing carries many of the film’s scenes, from ridiculous party antics to chaotic family moments. The story itself is pure 80s cheese: a random missile incident, over-the-top parties, quirky grandparents, and an obnoxious older brother. Every absurd element contributes to the film’s unique charm. While some jokes and scenarios are questionable today, the energy and creativity behind the film make it a quintessential example of 80s teen comedy. Overall, Weird Science is best suited for an older audience that can appreciate its campy humor and darkly comedic moments without being overly sensitive to outdated themes.
