It’s a shaggy dog story leading to a punchline, of sorts, but one that feels woozy and illusory; it is not like a nightmare exactly, but a strange dream that’s difficult to shake on waking. Go to Full Review Budd Wilkins Slant Magazine Jul 20, 2023

It might not make any sense. It might not even matter. But it's a blast while it lasts, and it brings the most perfect of endings along with the sunrise. Go to Full Review Julian Singleton Cinapse Jul 11, 2025
What truly sets After Hours apart in Scorsese’s filmography is how much the film is defined by its whimsically grim sense of humor. Go to Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews Jun 23, 2024

After Hours is hallucinatory: lit with the clarity of a nightmare and bursting with such surreal details as a cashier who pirouettes as he takes your check and a crescent of mousetraps guarding the bed of a demented cocktail waitress. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

Janav S @TheCoolJ92781 1 day ago An insanely underrated Scorsese film that uses the classic "get back home" narrative but with a supernatural and coincidental twist. Everything somehow connects in this movie, whether it's the characters or the timelines; this is totally unlike the great Marty Scorsese. See more Harrison C @QwopEX Sep 19, 2026 Interesting. The story manages to become more and more unhinged until it just isn’t. See more Ben W @Username618 Aug 8, 2026 Seem to remember enjoying, but watched it at school as part of the Film Club. See more Dana A @DanaQ Aug 7, 2026 This film is my #1. See more Josh G @Parsifal83 Aug 1, 2026 Scorsese turns one disastrous night into an irresistibly escalating chain reaction of absurdity and anxiety. The film's manic energy never lets up, creating a darkly comic odyssey that's as meticulously crafted as it is wildly entertaining. See more Jason H @RT50328122 Jun 7, 2026 Wonderfully bizarre. It couldn't be made today; cellphones and debit cards have made almost everything that happens in this movie easy to resolve. See more Read all reviews
