When timid bank clerk Stanley Ipkiss (Jim Carrey) discovers a magical mask containing the spirit of the Norse god Loki, his entire life changes. While wearing the mask, Ipkiss becomes a supernatural playboy exuding charm and confidence which allows him to catch the eye of local nightclub singer Tina Carlyle (Cameron Diaz). Unfortunately, under the mask's influence, Ipkiss also robs a bank, which angers junior crime lord Dorian Tyrell (Peter Greene), whose goons get blamed for the heist.

Critics Consensus

It misses perhaps as often as it hits, but Jim Carrey's manic bombast, Cameron Diaz' blowsy appeal, and the film's overall cartoony bombast keep The Mask afloat.

Given any thought, the morality of the film is, itself, questionable as it tries to let Ipkiss ride off into the sunset with Tina without paying for crimes he is responsible for regardless of whether he did them while wearing the enchanted mask or not.

The Mask is a childhood favorite. I love Jim Carey and his classic comedy. it was a treat to see this in the theatre all these years later.

Very funny and full of wild, over the top moments. Jim Carrey completely carries the film with his energy and crazy expressions that make every scene entertaining. The mix of comedy, cartoon style effects and action make it easy to enjoy without thinking too much. Overall, it is a fun and light movie that still feels fresh and enjoyable. It also works well as a feel good movie that you can rewatch anytime without getting bored.

my parents showed me this and i loved it!!!, it's so funny, i would re-watch this a lot, Jim carrey did really good, i like the old cartoony style, i'm so glad my parents told me to watch it, if you haven't seen it it's a must-watch! :)
