As a demonstration of human nature, we're afraid that this film Henri-Georges Clouzot has helped adapt and has directed fails to convey why a man would throw himself at the feet of an obviously no-good dame. Go to Full Review

The flashback construction is ungainly and awkward and veers off into strange third act that sends his outlaws into the desert like the lost tribe of doomed lovers. But the dive into the urban underworld is pure noir... Go to Full Review

Even by 1949's standards, this odd-duck in the director's filmography may be a tempestuous love affair, but one marked savagely by the uncompromising fluctuations of power which crush survivors 'neath the weight of lofty ideals. Go to Full Review

Claudio C @Claudio666 Jan 8 Melodramatic Romance (12,186 – 08 Jan 2026) While transporting Jews to Alexandria, the Captain of the ship is informed there are two stowaways on board. They are Robert, who is wanted in Paris for murder, and his lover Manon. The Captain asks their story. When a village is liberated, the residents want to punish Manon since she was "friend" of the enemy. The leader of the French Resistance asks Robert to keep her prisoner. But Robert falls for Manon and flees with her to Paris, to meet her brother Léon Lescaut. Robert finds that Manon is an ambitious woman that goes to bed with millionaires for money. The love of Roberto for Manon leads him to a tragedy. "Manon" (1949) is a melodramatic romance in the post-WW-II. The plot follows Robert and Manon, an ambitious young woman interested in having good life and defined by her brother as a prostitute by nature, The romance leads the couple to a tragic end.
