A Muslim ambassador exiled from his homeland, Ahmad ibn Fadlan finds himself in the company of Vikings. While the behavior of the Norsemen initially offends ibn Fadlan, the more cultured outsider grows to respect the tough, if uncouth, warriors. During their travels together, ibn Fadlan and the Vikings get word of an evil presence closing in, and they must fight the frightening and formidable force, which was previously thought to exist only in legend.

On paper, that description undoubtedly seems ridiculous. But remember -- what The 13th Warrior does best is make the ridiculous seem (for lack of a better word) "cool."

Great movie, with great score and atmospherics, casting is on point and even though the movie is now over 20years since release, it still holds you and defiantly worst a watch, for me it has reached cult status, along with the likes of 5th Element and Demolition Man.

Audience is totally right on this film. It is not a masterpiece, but it sure is hell is not as bad as the critics seem to think. The story is limited, but it exists and drives the scenes. The only mildly confusing/useless part of the movie was the duel that happens, which they give some brief reasonings for but ultimately was unimportant to the movie. But otherwise everything that happens is because the plot wants it to. Acting's actually pretty decent, not triple A but solid b tier movie stuff. Fighting was interesting, it certainly felt fake but it also had its good moments. Additionally the movie has a ton of really memorable things that happen which in my mind highlights a movies ability to focus on important moments. The end fight scene, while a little lack luster, has an amazing build up that reminds me of something like LOTR.

Stumbled across this by accident, late night viewing when off sick once The plot isn’t complicated, but I love this film, it’s barely know, but I legitimately think it’s excellent, it was never gonna win Oscar’s, but it’s one of the most underrated films I know of

Synopsis
