Critics Consensus

A clever, offbeat romantic comedy, 500 Days of Summer is refreshingly honest and utterly charming.

This is a film which tries so hard to be fresh and different it loses sight of the bigger picture, is just kind of empty somehow, and rather beefs up the 'rom' and the heartache at the expense of the 'com.' Go to Full Review

The principals perform their roles nicely, but there really isn't much for them to do. Undoubtedly, the age gap has influenced my negative response. Go to Full Review

What makes this movie so seamless is the spot-on performances of the two lead actors and the very relatable story of what happens when love--and life--happens. Go to Full Review

Don’t call this film a romantic comedy, because with that label comes so many bad associations. Instead, call this a slice of romance, with all the potential elation and heartbreak offered therein. Go to Full Review

The thing about (500) Days of Summer is that you could switch the leads and not miss a beat. Deschanel and Gordon-Levitt are that good. Go to Full Review

Lily M @lilixxmoon 2d An unexpected film that turns many of the romantic comedy tropes on it's head. Great chemistry between Zooey and Joseph Gordon Levitt. Stellar soundtrack. Quirky and surprisingly more depth that you would expect. So many viewers have a different take on the film and I think that is a feat in itself as a testament to it's genius. It's a film that viewers continue to analyze and encourages a discussion on the evolving landscape of relationships, breakups, and romance for the millennial generation. It's nuanced but clever. Witty but flawed. Charming but eye rolling at times all at the same time. I highly recommend anyone watch this film in its entirety and not just stick to the short tiktok reels out there. See more Arthur B @Arthur638 Jan 18 It’s different, fresh and is a rollercoaster of emotions teaching a lesson on how some good relationships have to end for you to learn See more Emanuelly C Dec 2 Honestly, it's a very good movie with good potential, but Summer ends up being misinterpreted. The film is about a romance between Summer and Tom; Summer never wanted anything serious and always warned Tom that... Tom just had too high expectations, but the way Summer handled it wasn't nice, but it was the only way she saw fit. See more Sanky T Dec 1 I would definitely recommend it as a must watch movie as it helps the younger ones realize what love is all about and would easily be one of my top 3 re-watch movies which I'll never forget watching for the first time The movie could've easily been a 5 star but is 4.5 as the ending was a bit sad and things didn't go as I expected i.e summer marrying tom and no one named autumn was planned See more Emma K. @moviewatcher317 Nov 13 Wonderful movie, one of my favorite ones See more Malik D. @Princevon Nov 9 This movie is in my top 5 favorite movies of all time. It's a gem that I've watched repeatedly over the years. See more Read all reviews
