Nostromo still looks incredible, the Xenomorph is still terrifying, but what impressed me most was how well the characters are written. And that's why Ellen Ripley still works so well. She has no superpowers and no chance against the Alien in a direct fight. She is afraid, she runs, she makes mistakes, but she thinks and acts under pressure. Her strength doesn't come from being more powerful than everyone around her. The film doesn't make the other characters incompetent just to make Ripley look better. It doesn't need to tell us she's a strong woman either. It simply lets us see it. Perhaps that's something modern cinema sometimes gets wrong: a strong character and a powerful character are not the same thing. A character without weaknesses isn't automatically strong. Sometimes they're simply boring. Almost 50 years later, Alien still trusts its audience. And it still works brilliantly. Ridley Scott takes a simple idea—a crew trapped in space with something hunting them—and turns it into a slow, terrifying nightmare. The movie is definitely slow-paced, especially compared to modern horror, but that’s intentional. Alien relies more on suspense, isolation, and atmosphere than cheap jump scares. The Alien itself is also one of the greatest movie monsters ever designed. A beautifully made, genuinely creepy sci-fi horror classic. Even if you’ve seen a lot of modern space-horror movies, Alien is worth watching just to see where so much of the genre came from. See more Dominic T @Dom2Chilly Sep 10, 2026 8.1/10. Alien is an all time classic and great watch for any horror fan. Amazing visuals that stand the test of time and can be rewatched whenever. A beautiful suspension horror that keeps me engaged.
