Critics Consensus

While Sigourney Weaver's feral performance as a resurrected Ripley restores some fun to the Alien franchise, the acid blood running through this fourth entry's veins corrodes whatever emotional investment audiences had left.

It lacks the frequent surprises of Alien, but it is just as visceral, and ultimately, more disturbing. Go to Full Review Bernard Zuel Sydney Morning Herald Apr 29, 2026
The plot lines are way too familiar and the ending is merely an invitation for Alien 5. Go to Full Review David Hunter The Hollywood Reporter Aug 7, 2024
Alien Resurrection checks in with enough slime, gore and scary monster-flick moments to satisfy undemanding audiences. But it's an ugly, animated corpse of a movie stitched together from the other three films in the series. Go to Full Review Dennis Lim Independent on Sunday Jul 16, 2026
The movie isn't especially exciting (or coherent) and, in all honest, it's a bit of an eye-sore. Go to Full Review Trace Thurman Horror Queers Podcast Apr 29, 2025

You've got to give Alien Resurrection some credit: it takes some big swings. Go to Full Review Joe Lipsett Horror Queers Podcast Apr 23, 2025

Too weird, wet and horny to be widely accepted, Alien Resurrection nevertheless captures Jeunet's unique stuff, Whedon's trademark quips, and brings its own flavour to the Alien franchise Go to Full Review Read all reviews

Taps into gore horror a lot. Good watch but really stretching the franchise thin. See more Robert P @Superbad Sep 10, 2026 Alien Resurrection = a 3 star Movie! See more The M @Stray113 Sep 7, 2026 After three films, you think the alien series would be running on empty by now, but thanks to Jean Perrie-Junet’s direction that saves this pretty lean Alien Resurrection. Not so fast because alien resurrection brings back the fun, the pathos, and some WTH moments. The cast is uniformly good with Sigourney Weaver doing a bang up job. Ron Perlman would’ve made a great Pennywise.. I recommend it and I also think the deep blue sea script completely ripped off alien resurrection!? See more Read all reviews
