In a near future, life on Earth has been decimated. Paul (Nicolas Cage) and his twin teenage sons, Thomas (Jaeden Martell) and Joseph (Maxwell Jenkins), have been living a half-life -- tranquility by day and torment by night. When the sun sets, ferocious creatures of the night awaken and consume all living souls in their path. One day, when Thomas doesn't return home before sundown, Paul chooses to leave the safety of their fortified farm to find him before the creatures arrive. Just as he finds his boy, a nightmarish battle ensues and Paul is gravely wounded. Now the twins must devise a desperate plan for surviving the coming night and use everything their father has taught them to keep him alive.

Critics Consensus

Led by a trio of strong performances, Arcadian blends family drama and post-apocalyptic horror to visceral, emotionally stirring effect.

Audience Says

With a strong performance from Nicolas Cage and co., Arcadian's promising start quickly devolves as fuzzy perspectives and cinematography fail to convince viewers that the post-apocalyptic beasts are a cause for fear.

For a low-budget film, the effects work is minimal but effective. Arcadian keeps the aliens’ origins intentionally ambiguous and is all the more spine-tingling for it.

It has some memorable moments and it has atmosphere. I think it is best before it shows its hand, or indeed, its teeth.

Stop shaking the camera! On its own it does not imply excitement or tension... Beautiful score, though. Top marks for the composers Kristin Gundred and Josh Martin.

Its effective approach to horror, its wonderful performances, and its inventive creature design are wonderful on their own, and make the movie worth watching despite the poorly crafted script lurking in the darkness.

The themes of having to grow up too fast, and taking ownership of your own mistakes are well played out.

It’s astonishing how effective and big budget Arcadian feels and a part of this is [due to] intelligent blocking of the creatures and frenetic cinematography.

Solid acting with some good scares and maintained the tension. Almost no story to explain how they got to the point where things really start. The monster design was interesting though they kind of reminded me of Tremors.

Just fell incomplete, I realized there will probably be a sequel but for the first part just seemed incomplete. Other than that, the movie was great

Nothing new here but the creatures are decent enough. Nicolas Cage is wasted here and the story has been done better before but overall not a bad way to waste some time

I enjoyed this movie. Lots of tense moments and a couple of good jump scares. I would recommend seeing.

The movie was interesting but sometimes confusing. Too much of the filming was nighttime scenes which were hard to make out.
