The simplicity in director Michael Caton-Jones' tale about a man looking to redefine his concept of right and wrong is powerful enough to carry the movie.

Dreyfuss sinks his teeth into his handful of scenes, while Bisset hits different but equally effective tones in her moments. The underrated Janssen, striking as ever, does her usual stellar work.

Nothing in the proceedings rings remotely true unless you've been weaned on a steady diet of soulful hit men movies.

…the action is short and not particularly distinguished, but there’s just enough meat on the bones to suggest why such a strong cast was attracted to this project…

Despite a familiar "ageing assassin" plotline, director Michael Caton-Jones delivers mood and menace, and is well served by Simon Boswell's bluesy score.

What ends up blurring the final feeling that leaves Asher is its outcome: equivocally open and without the courage necessary to leave grounds. [Full Review in Spanish]

I like Ron Perlman. He offers something a bit different to the big screen. He has an aura about him and none more so than in this captivating movie. He goes into a newsagent and buys a packet of cigarettes and an umbrella. It's not raining. He then takes a ride on the Metro and when he gets to his destination, it becomes apparent why he needed the brolly and the need to smoke a cigarette- to flush out his intended victim. The smoke from the cig smoke sets off the fire sprinkler and sprays water everywhere. That's why Asher needed an umbrella. It's all beautifully weighted and Perlman doesn't need to say much. Famke Janssen is dreamy beautiful and good (as ASHER'S girlfriend) and the unrecognisable Jacqueline Bisset is superb as Janssen's ailing, live-alone mother. Dreyfuss was lost in the film and didn't cut it for me. Perlman dominates everything. It's a really good production and one that you can watch a couple more times, at least.

Perlman has tried to make a career thinking being a big guy with a cool voice suites him for "tough guy" roles, but he just isn't believable. He needs to stick to voiceover work.

B- movie acting. Nonsensical casting. The bad guy gangsters dressed like they worked at trader joes. Below average storyline but my biggest beef is with whoever scored this thing. Seinfeld meets the good the bad and the ugly. This flick was pretty rough

Who the hell is voting? This is suspense at its fright. The acting is perfect. The lead guy is perfect.
