Mar 18, 2010 I expected nothing of this movie with the odd cover and got less than nothing. The main character of the movie appears about as intelligent as a 5- year - old, definitely less intelligent than his young daughter. His clinging behaviour and inability to see how he is pressing and unnerving his new crush were unnerving for me, too, and I wonder how this man was supposed to have a wife, child, job, home... Unless losing your job and family can turn you into a helpless child this movie greatly exaggerates things. No matter what the cover looks like, it's definitely not funny! See more Ola G @Ollie1972 Mar 15, 2010 Ake Jonsson (Mikael Persbrandt) is a successful businessman, who lives for his career and his car. His family, Nina (Lena Olin) and his two kids are on hold and he spends hardly any time at all with them. One day everything changes for Ake. He accidentally runs over his son, who dies from the injuries. His wife, his parents, his brother, all the people he kept on hold for so long and not cared about, refuses finally to have anything to do with him anymore. At the same time, he lose his job. The only thing he has left in this life. Ake ends up in a emotional greyzone and he is desperately trying to patch up things with his wife and to see his daughter Emma. In the midst of this, he bumps into Linda (Tuva Novotny), a girl with her own emotional problems, and suddenly Ake thinks he has found the replacement to this wife. Linda is of a different opinion and their slightly bizzare relation gets more and more out of hand. Ake is moving fast towards an emotional meltdown.. I am not a big fan of Swedish movies in general. I think we lack in all areas in our industry and it never gets any better. In terms of "Bang Bang Orangutang" I am of a slightly different opinion. It is kind of funny though, many times I read a review of a Swedish movie and it gets high grades in Sweden, and then if I might see it myself, nine times out of ten it turns out to be a piece of shit. I wonder everytime if I have seen the same movie as other people have. In this case it is the opposite. So so reviews, but I am in favour of this movie. "Bang Bang Orangutang" is directed by a dane, Simon Staho, and I think he has done a pretty ok job. But, the big credit should go to Persbrandt, Olin and Novotny. They make this movie come alive. Persbrandt is usually pretty solid, but I think he is really putting all he has got into Ake. Olin is Olin. And with Tuva, I have always felt that she is a mediocre actress, but as Linda she is showing me her full register. Finally. Tuva is as well a quite charming girl, but that is nothing new. And the music choices in the movie was intresting as well. The only thing in "Bang Bang Orangutang" I can critisize, is the ending. It felt too constructed and not believable. Even if it tries to show that there is still hope. Thus, this is not bad at all, but I believe that this comes together due to the fact that we have a dane in the directors chair, that brings out the best in the actors. See more Dec 20, 2008 Mie jotenkin niin tykkään katella näitä toivottomista ihmisperseistä kertovia elokuvia. No surprises there. See more Oct 21, 2008 Strangely unappealing drama with laces of dark humor has Mikael Persbrandt as cynical business-man whose life starts to unravel when he accidentally (more or less) runs over and kills his young son. Emotionally aloof and ultimately unsatisfying, despite a capable cast, and Persbrandt seems miscast in the lead. See more May 18, 2008 Frygteligt pinlig – happy ending See more May 12, 2008 I'm not really sure if I got what was with the childish look of the film. The style and colour made for a nice decent from childish to hellish, but it seemed too corny at times. Like it was trying to balance comedy and tragedy instead of mixing it. Does that make sense? Either way, it had some decent performances and interesting characters. See more Read all reviews
