Estranged brothers Francis (Owen Wilson), Peter (Adrien Brody) and Jack (Jason Schwartzman) reunite for a train trip across India. The siblings have not spoken in over a year, ever since their father passed away. when everything falls into place, as it does for much of The Darjeeling Limited, [Anderson’s] movies give way to something far deeper than film geekery.

What of the characters? Well, there aren't any, really.

Wes Anderson transports his arch, pristine, melancholic sensibility to India, where three estranged brothers meet after their father's death and hop a train in a quixotic attempt to heal their spiritual wounds.

As stylish as any Anderson-directed feature, The Darjeeling Limited is served best by its performances, as well as its touching blend of sadness and humour.

Far from Anderson's best work, The Darjeeling Limited offers enough dysfunctional family antics and care-free adventure to keep things interesting. [Full review in Spanish]

Considering the amounts of dry kooky humor, it may surprise some people to find this much heart. But Anderson has always had a knack for that.

The Darjeeling Limited has beautiful images, strong performances and a clear idea beneath all its eccentricity: three estranged brothers travelling through India while trying to reconnect with one another and face their family history. The problem is that I never fully connected with it. Wes Anderson’s absolute control over every colour, object and composition gives the film personality, but also creates a great deal of distance. Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman work well together, and the film becomes more effective when the jokes give way to genuine pain. Yet too much of it feels deliberately strange rather than meaningful. I understand what it wants to say about grief, family and spiritual journeys, but the story often seemed shapeless and a little silly to me. Beautiful to look at, but emotionally difficult to enter.

My favorite Wes Anderson film. It’s as deep as you’re ready to sink into it. Have watched it many, many times & each time something new steps forward. The actors, main & supporting, are all excellent & perfectly cast. This made me see Owen Wilson in a whole new light; refreshing. Great story line & non-stop adventure. The ultimate buddy road trip…and best luggage set ever!

Unique, meaningful, and humorous journey through brotherhood, family dynamics, and spirituality, all through an aesthetically wonderful lens. P.S. Great music, cast, and acting, as always from Wes Anderson!
