The look and tone and feel of the original are all back in full force, as are many of the same characters, and those are all positives. While I do like the end and the lead up to it better than its predecessor, Night Watch, I'm not sure this would make a lot of sense to people who haven't seen the first installment. Other than that, I think it's biggest flaw may be that it has too much story and that it moves too quickly for its own good.

I preferred the original as it blended horror in more with the science fiction and action for a somewhat darker experience. Day Watch is a strange beast to dissect as there is some amazing cinematography, wonderful visual effects, and some very original concepts in the film but the story is all over the place and takes itself to serious. The tone is a bit too serious for some of the goofy interactions that take place and we are introduced to so many characters and the pace is so frantic you really are just all over the place and it stretches the narrative a bit too much. Overall decent and original but could have been so much better had the script been more polished and the tone of the film more loose.

A great sequel to the first. Better in some aspects compared to the first and continues the story well. Who would have thought that Russian supernatural thrillers would be so fun? 4/5. Still waiting for the final release, Twilight Watch, after all these years.

RUSSIAN SCI FI ... I watched this and really tried. REALLY TRIED to understand this movie. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, it was interesting, exciting, visually and creatively intriguing. But I think I may have to spend a year in Russia before I can follow along with any sense of real understanding. I have not seen Night Watch though, I will go get it and then see if it all fits more... grin.
