Critics Consensus

If Denial doesn't quite do its incredible story complete justice, it comes close enough to offer a satisfying, impactful drama -- and another powerful performance from Rachel Weisz.

A movie that stayed rigorously inside its heroine's muzzled sense of frustration could be compelling, but Jackson keeps cutting to superfluous subplots.

The excellent cast delivers the dramatic goods and a sequence involving a journey to Auschwitz provides a chilling reminder as to just what the legal arguments are really about.

Solidly crafted, Denial is anchored by wonderful performances from Rachel Weisz and Tom Wilkinson. It's also shockingly relevant to the odd place we find ourselves today.

Denial’s relevance has ballooned since its release, a fact that might hobble its hopeful ending but that only makes the rest all the more powerful.

How in 2026 did I miss this 2016 movie. Very worth watching and thought provoking but, could have been written and produced better. Overall it was well done.

DENIAL is a good movie that should have been even better; any fault is in the screenplay and it's difficult to comprehend why it wasn't edited to the degree which the story deserves. The cast is top shelf, top notch and Timothy Spall provided a terrifically stand out performance that I felt carried the entire show. I'm glad to have had the opportunity to watch it and I'm very happy to have seen Timothy Spall show everyone "how it's done". And, it definitely puts fascist loving Holocaust deniers in the darkness of the fascist cesspool that they belong in.

I thought acting was excellent in this movie. It's a good, high stakes courtroom drama.

A well made movie with convincing performances. It deals with the trial and does not try to convince anyone of the truth of the Holocaust or the horror of it. The salient point here, I think, is that beliefs very often get in the way of facts, and vice versa.

Great movie! And although I knew the verdict it had to be for Deborah Lipstadt I bawled my eyes out anyway for the victims. You see, I met a man with that tattoo. A great man henri landsworth, founder of the give the kids to world foundation. You see the holocaust is not a s*** stain on human history, it's a full blown diarrhea event, running down your leg, staining forever the leather of the inside of your brand new, expensive shoes and your newly white carpeted floor.

This was such an exceptional movie with great acting and storyline that was based on actual events. Rachel Weiss was extraordinary. It's definitely worth the watch.
