During the Cold War, a female spy steals secrets from a politician after falling in love with him.

Critics Consensus

Despite the Falling Snow's slick production and appealing cast struggle to elevate a feeble script, resulting in a Cold War thriller that never raises the temperature.

It's the kind of dud in which the bad decisions pile up as you watch.

So tasteful it's torturous, Despite the Falling Snow is a Cold War espionage thriller for those who like their period-piece action airless and derivative.

The cast's commendable commitment can't hide the film's overall lack of ambition and scope.

With the action jumping backwards and forwards in time, the plot is not always easy to follow, and a gratuitous lesbian romance does little to disguise the fact that the underlying story has run badly out of steam long before the end.

Spy movies are my favorite and this one is excellent. Forget the critics. This is a really good movie.

A good time piece on communist Russia and how people just disappeared. Fergusson plays dual roles, all done well. IMB rated this much higher and I agree with their opinion.

....I guess because I spent 3 years in West Berlin in the early 1960's , this film may have interested me more than the average film fan...It reminded me (a little) of the "doomed romance " angle of Dr. Zhivago , plus the utter depression of working in the counterintelligence Cold War era of "The Spy Who Came In From The Cold" ... Though not as good as the 2 earlier films, I thought it did manage to convey the hopelessness of trying to survive in ANY kind of a "police-state" society....For a current example , I might point to a certain Highly-placed "leader"who recently claimed he had "total power" to run his government any way he wanted to run it..Does that ring any bells?....

Was an average to good spy novel adapted film. Not a great movie but it was clean and I still recommend it.
