Christian W Jan 3, 2023 It really missed some opportunities. Nearly no interactions with differently sized people: the same story could've been told without shrinking anyone. Squandered possibilities, following one guy's journey and he wasn't even among the most interesting people. See more Lisa F @RT39183349 1 day ago I thought this was a sweet, fun film. I’m actually really surprised that it scored so low. I loved the concept and thought it brought in some interesting angles to it. It had a really nice fantasy film feel to it at the end, which I really liked. I don’t really rate films, in fact I’ve never done this before (in case it wasn’t obvious!) But I really felt like I had to give support to this film as it was really feel-good and worthy of more than has been scored. See more Oskar D @Oskar12336 Sep 15, 2026 I honestly like it. It shows the problems of the world in many ways. But, the story itself just falls short. See more sarah H @Humphriessarah2 Aug 15, 2026 I get the message but this was not good. Shrinking people as a response to overpopulation, consumption, wealth, and environmental collapse is a strong sci-fi hook, and the setup is much more interesting than the story that follows. The early world-building is the best part. The tiny luxury communities, economic advantages, new social rules, and strange appeal of miniature life give the movie a clever satirical edge. Matt Damon works well as an ordinary man pulled into a much bigger social experiment, even if the character is not always the most compelling part of the film. Hong Chau gives the movie its strongest emotional presence as Ngoc Lan Tran. She brings humor, pain, bluntness, and humanity that the film badly needs. Downsizing is ambitious and has interesting things to say about class, climate, privilege, and responsibility, but it drifts away from its best ideas too often. See more Virpi R @Uneton Aug 3, 2026 I liked this, even though it was unusual. A good movie doesn't spell everything out but leaves room for the viewer's own insights. A film that has been criticized far too much. See more Read all reviews
