Robert P @Superbad 4 days ago The English Patient = a 4.5 star Movie! See more Huntin P @PaxVobiscum80 Sep 14, 2026 Some internet folks like to tell us that esteem for this movie has declined. They usually cite that scene from Seinfeld. I loathe Seinfeld, so it means nothing. Maybe The English Patient is a fraction too long, or too, what, intelligent? Most likely, objections to it centre on the general paucity of Yanks in the cast. It's mostly Brits and Europeans. Fact remains, the director, Anthony Minghella, was a brilliant artist, gone too soon. Nobody puts a foot wrong, not even in the minefield, in The English Patient. It won stacks of Oscars, and well deserved, I'd say. This is a movie with a grand canvas, desert adventures, passionate love, agonising loss. It's also a story of healing and forgiveness, very necessary things at any time period. I think folk who like romantic films may enjoy it? idk. It was months before I joined my pal at the cinema, again, and only then a thing that I knew, for a fact, I would enjoy. This does NOT have art direction, regular direction, or, honestly, imo, even the acting chops, to warrant the time you'll spend watching it (I think, unless you like romantic stuff?). See more Chris S @Janomi Jul 3, 2026 The English Patient is a beautifully crafted romantic drama that values atmosphere and emotion over urgency. Anthony Minghella combines breathtaking cinematography, elegant production design, and Gabriel Yared's haunting score to create a film that feels both intimate and epic. The sweeping desert landscapes and quiet moments in the abandoned monastery are just as memorable as the romance itself. Ralph Fiennes delivers a restrained, deeply emotional performance as Count Almásy, while Juliette Binoche, Kristin Scott Thomas, Willem Dafoe, and Naveen Andrews form an outstanding ensemble. Their performances give weight to a richly layered story about love, memory, betrayal, and the lasting scars of war. At nearly three hours, the story unfolds slowly, and the nonlinear structure occasionally interrupts its emotional momentum. Even so, its exceptional performances, beautiful craftsmanship, and moving story make it a rewarding experience for patient viewers. See more Ben W @Username618 Jun 30, 2026 Spoiler alert. Remember the soundtrack, but, again... Crashing a plane into someone for revenge, vvvvv unlikely. See more Ivan B @Bogda May 17, 2026 Ok story, nice visuals, too long and little slow. Characters not very interesting. Ok for filling the time on the flight, hardly deserving all oscars it won. See more Read all reviews
