The young female lead's makeup must have been inspired by the the Rocky Horror Picture Show. If you can endure even half of this, you're a better man than me, Gunga Din. See more Jeff B Nov 17 Ahh yes, "With World War II raging around them..." I do remember going to school in Massachusetts and learning about all of the raging WWII stories that took place there. Or not. A terrible movie, script, cast, acting. The two leads, Gene and Penny have zero on-screen chemistry together. Cusack and Sorvino surely knew what a stinker this was, but a paycheck is a paycheck. Fog of Boring or Disbelief, your choice, either is a more fitting title. See more Harry P Aug 28 The nicest thing I can say about Fog of War is that the cinematography is polished, with some striking visual choices. Unfortunately, that sheen is about as deep as it goes. The script offers very little for the cast to work with, leaving most performances stilted and underdeveloped. John Cusack makes an honest effort to inject some life into his character, and you can feel him straining for emotional weight, but he’s ultimately fighting against paper-thin writing that gives him nothing to build on. Adding to the disappointment is the structure: the ending is essentially given away in the opening minutes. It saps the story of what little suspense it might have generated, so anyone hoping for a slow-burn mystery or a payoff down the line will likely be left cold. In the end, Fog of War feels like a film where talented people were trapped in a lackluster script, and the result is a movie that looks far better than it plays. This one is hard to recommend.
