Wayne K @RT88290232 1d A brilliant sharp, witty, laugh out loud satire about the kind of subject matter that few people would have the guts to tackle. But Chris Morris has never been afraid to push the barriers of taste. Four Lions asks an important question: What if a group of terrorists planning an attack were all complete halfwits? Zealous but clueless, their efforts are constantly thwarted by their own incompetence, and it’s an endless source of hilarious comedy shenanigans. I can’t remember the last time I laughed at hard at anything, let alone a movie about men wanting to kill innocent people. The characters are so transparently English, from their accents to their slang, but their faith, or their pick and mix interpretation of it, is what inspires them to cause harm. It’s taken me a long time to get round to watching this one, but I’m so unspeakably happy that I did. Endlessly enjoyable, funny and heartfelt, and with one of the snappiest scripts ever written, Four Lions is, quite literally, the bomb. It seems like some people saw satire aimed at dangerous stupidity and somehow decided the movie was endorsing the dangerous stupidity. It’s fine if a dark comedy isn’t for you. It’s fine to be uncomfortable. But confusing satire with approval is how "bad takes" escape containment and start chewing through the walls. Four Lions appears to be mocking extremism, vanity, delusion, and idiot certainty. Judging by some of the reviews, the arrow landed close enough to make people yelp. As a member of that audience i get it and love it. But even outside that demographic- it is brilliant if you just stand back and look at it objectively. I was absolouteley horrified at the interactions with his son and the open talk around sick sick ideas. To attempt to make light of such crazy and deeply sadistic ideas is just mind blowing to me.
