Critics Consensus

Frida is a passionate, visually striking biopic about the larger-than-life artist.

The screenplay takes a paint-by-numbers approach, but the director, Julie Taymor... supplies visual exuberance in the spirit of the film’s heroine.

A little better than the run-of-the-mill artist picture, probably because the colorful lives of these figures have an interest that for many people exceeds the interest of their work–or at least enhances it...

Smart, willful, and perverse, this Frida is nobody's servant, and the tiny Hayek plays her with head held high. You may want to laugh now and then, but you won't look away.

Taymors film doesnt shy away from Fridas struggles and her fierce determination to continue despite them. But it also delves into the real spirit of a painter, and the politics that turn the tides of culture.

The strangest of birds - a film about a Communist, bisexual, hirsute, maverick artist aimed squarely at a mainstream audience - Frida may, in fact, turn out to be more radical than it first appears.

Just adds to woman’s delusions in a obvious woman’s world that we all live in depicts how completely unappreciative and entitled women truly are

This movie was incredibly easy to watch, it was such a pleasure, directed with such softness. I never knew anything about Frida and this movie introduced me to this incredible painter who contributed so much to surrealism form of art painting. When it comes to her husband Diego, wow, what a piece of crap he was but he stuck with her till the very end, which surprised me a lot. Salma was so great in this, she was very convincing and everything she did looked very natural. Frida’s legacy will live forever and in my opinion this movie did her justice.

Excellent film boosted by incredible performances especially from Alfred Molina and especially Salma Hayek, visual style, and emotional depth. A must see film.

This movie does a good job of telling the story of Frida Kahlo, from her beginnings to her death. But what truly makes this film interesting is the casting and the performances by the actors.
