Critics Consensus

Though technically well-constructed, Friday the 13th is a series rehash that features little to distinguish it from its predecessors.

If you're a die hard Jason fan like myself, check out the movie with popcorn and a group of friends. If not, sit this one out.

Unfortunately, no matter how clever-clever the all-new screenplay might (occasionally) be at acknowledging the faults of the original, this does not make them magically go away.

One thing this latest rehash - No 11, by my count - does achieve, is make the original look like a frickin' masterpiece.

Friday the 13th is a solid and broadly effective, but somewhat generic, thriller.

Late 2000s reboots earn their poor reception, but this is stylish enough and delivers the necessary beats of the franchise to still be entertaining.

At the end of the day, this is a Friday the 13th film...but it's a good one! Jason is more ferocious than ever and the kills are satisfying carnage. It says a lot though when you recycle the plot of the first 4 F13 movies and STILL feel light on story.

A fairly slick affair compared to the original films, but mostly still the same ol' stuff

SHOOT THE BOOT I absolutely love this movie. It's a mix of the first four original movies and feels like the perfect representation of the franchise. In my opinion, it's the best one. Trent is one of those characters I literally hate every time I watch this. He's on the same level as Joffrey from Game of Thrones. The blood and violence are finally here, which was extremely lacking throughout the franchise. The production is awesome, dark, and modern, and the camp feels like a real abandoned place. Watching this in 4K looks immaculate. The HDR in the woods is crisp. Jason feels gritty and soulless. Is this a movie we've seen 10 times before? Absolutely. But I genuinely think this is the best version of it. The pacing is a little off, with a great first act followed by parts that move too quickly. The ending is also abrupt, but that's Friday the 13th fashion. It's not an Oscar movie, but it's a great time and one I watch at least once a year around Halloween.
