The film takes place just before Christmas, when an unexpected turn in their mother's health thrusts four adult siblings and their exasperating father into chaos as they navigate messy family dynamics in the face of potential loss. But their quick-witted mother, June, orchestrates her decline on her own terms -- with biting humor, blunt honesty, and a lot of love.

Critics Consensus

A family affair both on screen and behind the camera, Kate Winslet's directorial debut stacks the deck for tears a little too lopsidedly, but honest performances help put this drama's heart firmly in the right place.

"Goodbye June” is far from a catastrophe, but it’s perhaps a greater sin that the film would be far more interesting if it were.

It’s a story open to the syrupy and the sentimental, and it can’t quite escape the formulaic, despite an overqualified supporting cast...giving their all to the reconciliation dynamic underpinning the plot.

Goodbye June has some fine qualities, but it's flat when it should be compelling.

Goodbye, June is an imperfect film that looks at imperfect, ridiculous, loving, violent, contradictory families. [Full review in Spanish]

It might not exactly be cheery Christmas viewing, but Goodbye June certainly offers plenty of food for thought and makes for a compelling watch.

The friction feels artificial, contrived to generate obligatory epiphanies and weepy reconciliations.

Great acting, Helen Mirren at her best. Kate winslet also. Great story line and brought tears to my eyes.

It’s a tear jerk for sure but I sobbed and laughed from beginning to end! Great story, great cast (Helen, Kate and Toni) and perfect flow and timing! I put it in my holiday movie category faves including Home For The Holidays and The Family Stone. I am excited to see what else Kate and her son have to collaborate on together.
