Critics Consensus

Alfonso Cuarón's Gravity is an eerie, tense sci-fi thriller that's masterfully directed and visually stunning.

Their [Sandra Bullock and George Clooney] fight for survival against the odds is so brilliantly realised that you forgive the implausible plot.

With its themes of spirituality, religion, birth, rebirth and hope, Gravity is a film that will move audiences in different ways. That's the beauty of it; it transcends genres, generations and time, a modern classic.

Gravity shows us the beauty of space, how the silence can be an escape from all the noise experienced on earth, as well as, gravity being associated with space, water or the events that don't allow us to be free in life, from ourselves and others.

Gravity is arguably the best 3-D movie of all-time and it's an experience we've never seen before at the theater.

While there is no way to truly re-create the wholly immersive theatrical experience of "Gravity" at home, the newly reissued Blu-ray comes closest — reintroducing a powerful Dolby Atmos sound mix and intriguing extra features into a more affordable orbit.

Gravity is a one-dimensional spectacle. Technically sleek but narratively weightless, it relies on visual wizardry to distract from a bare-bones story. The film opens with long, beautiful shots and an impressive sense of spatial immersion — then spends the next hour dragging out an extremely thin plot with endless close-ups of Sandra Bullock breathing. The setup is stronger than the payoff. Once the tension wears off, whats left is a hollow journey through increasingly implausible obstacles. It's not profound, it's not moving — it's just long.

Gravity is a solid science film with great visuals, but plot elements and characterization left me not enjoying it as much as I wanted to. I wish that the film had been grounded in science. So much of the film just felt like implausible situations happening just so that there is action. It would have been enjoyable if the film was slow paced and non-action heavy.

As somebody who has a brain and a vagues concept of the laws of physics I have to say that this is less realistic than a Tom & Jerry cartoon
