The death of their childhood basketball coach leads to a reunion for some old friends (Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock), who gather at the site of a championship celebration years earlier. Picking up where they left off, the buddies -- with wives and children in tow -- discover why age does not, necessarily, equal maturity.

Critics Consensus

Grown Ups' cast of comedy vets is amiable, but they're let down by flat direction and the scattershot, lowbrow humor of a stunted script.

Granted, Sandler's script has one or two laughs, but it's mostly excruciating and lacks the self-mockery of, say, a Judd Apatow movie.

Despite some passable gags and a whole posse of middle-aged funnymen, Denis Dugan's comedy is about the least grown-up movie you could see.

Sandler's abysmal script cooks up a bite-sized moral for the finale. Groan ups, more like.

Adam Sandler’s worst movie? Little Nicky and Jack and Jill are among the contenders, and so is Grown Ups.

Lazy and inept as comedies get, Grown Ups features a plethora of talented stars doing very little to entertain us.

Grown Ups is pure, unadulterated comfort food and peak feel-good comedy. Adam Sandler brings together an all-star roster of his best friends—Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, and Rob Schneider—and their natural, effortless chemistry carries every single scene. It doesn't try to be overly complex, and that's precisely why it works so well. Packed with continuous physical humor, quick-witted roasting, nostalgic summer vibes, and genuine heart, it captures the chaos and fun of old friends reconnecting and acting like kids again. Hilarious, lighthearted, and infinitely rewatchable. 5/5 stars—the ultimate feel-good movie night.

I felt queasy watching this. It was so bad I felt compelled to open this account and leave a review. It's truly awful. Middle aged men perving over young girls. Stereotypes, cliches, jokes that don't get any more obvious or tired. Sexist, mean-spirited, superficial. 'Lads will be lads' humour teamed with vacuous female roles, the women subjected to cheap snipes about their age, bodies and appearance. If ever you want to give your teenage daughter a complex or teach your teenage son how not to behave, let them watch this.

It was a mistake watching this movie. The humor was vulgar and extremely unfunny. It was genuinely one of the worst films I've ever seen. I'm definitely going to stick to more family-oriented comedies.

Grown ups is my comfort movie, even though it’s an Hour and a half of middle aged guys complaining about how stuff was better when they were better. It’s funny
