At the end of World War II, the Nazis attempt to open a portal to a paranormal dimension in order to defeat the Allies, but are only able to summon a baby demon who is rescued by Allied forces and dubbed "Hellboy" (Ron Perlman). Sixty years later, Hellboy serves as an agent in the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense, where he, aided by Abe Sapien (Doug Jones), a merman with psychic powers, and Liz Sherman (Selma Blair), a woman with pyrokinesis, protects America against dark forces.

When the movie's story line concentrates on the character of Hellboy and his relationships with those important to him, the film becomes a unique romp, with an exciting yet vulnerable superhero at the center who just happens to be the spawn of Satan.

Director Guillermo Del Toro captures some of the visual color, tone, and beauty of the comic book. But he sometimes makes you feel like you are reading it over someone else's shoulder, and that person takes too long to finish a page.

Probably the most creative and entertaining movie of the early 2000's I have ever watched! As a fantasy-action fan, I was immediately in love with this movie's characters, it's interesting mythology and entertaining dialogue. I had enjoyed Pacific Rim, and I heard Guillermo del Toro, its director, was a very cool filmmaker, so I had decided to watch more of his movies. I just can't resist movies that have such artistic concepts and visuals - it immediately makes those films jump out at me. I loved how Hellboy was like a classic, lone-wolf type superhero on the surface, while below, he's a guy with flaws around his behavior and relationships. But he still loves those he cares about, no matter how far away from him they are. And of course he has the greatest quips from any movie I've watched! - Blue says there's an evil monster behind the door and Hellboy simply says "Oh, well. Let me go in and say 'hi.'" So perfect.

I enjoyed *Hellboy* because it has a good mix of action, fantasy, and humor. Hellboy is a unique character who fights evil while struggling with his demonic nature. The movie has exciting fight scenes, interesting creatures, and a fun story. Overall, it's an entertaining superhero movie, and I would rate it
