Honestly, Host is pretty disappointing. The plot feels nonexistent, and it seems like the movie is more focused on trying to scare you than actually telling a compelling story. The jumpscares are cheesy and predictable, and overall it just isn’t engaging. I was expecting more tension and clever scares, but instead it left me underwhelmed.

Host is the kind of work that can please those who enjoy the genre. Not because of its screenplay or its story, but because of its competence in delivering great entertainment in a creative way. The film’s plot is simple, but it works. This film is a good recommendation for those who enjoy horror movies; it delivers good scares and great moments of tension. It can be predictable and generic at many moments, but I do not see this as a flaw, since its execution is efficient. The film does not make the viewer rack their brain with hidden messages, analogies, or things like that; it simply entertains with well-made horror entertainment. A coherent screenplay and a simple narrative are enough to please the audience. Host is not a complex work of art; it does not have an elaborate screenplay or a far-fetched plot. It is simply a film whose main objective is to entertain the viewer.

Absolutely effective and intense and terrifying. A seance in a zoom session during lockdown grows more and more mysterious and effectively scary. This succeeds in what Blair Witch Project tried to do and didn’t quite do it.
