Peter (Charlie Day) and Emma (Jenny Slate) are total strangers, but when they meet, one thing instantly bonds them: they were both unexpectedly dumped by their respective partners, Anne (Gina Rodriguez) and Noah (Scott Eastwood), on the same weekend. As the saying goes, "misery loves company," but their commiseration turns into a mission when they see on social media that their exes have happily moved on to new romances, Anne with Logan (Manny Jacinto) and Noah with Ginny (Clark Backo). Terrified that, in their 30s, they have lost their shot at happily ever after and horrified at the prospect of having to start over, Peter and Emma hatch a desperate plot to win the loves of their lives back. Each will do whatever it takes to put an end to their exes' new relationships and send them running back to their arms.

Critics Consensus

With a stellar cast playing well-rounded characters, I Want You Back is the rare rom-com that delivers its romance as capably as its comedy.

Mostly it won me over because I'm a little bit goofy about Jenny Slate and even a little bit goofier for Gina Rodriguez.

I Want You Back is sweeter and more sensitive than you might expect from this kind of broad mainstream romp.

Artfully dodging genre clichés with a charming familiarity last seen in When Harry Met Sally or Sleepless in Seattle, Amazon Prime Video's I Want You Back redefines those romantic elements for a new-age romantic comedy.

I Want You Back doesn’t reinvent the wheel. It is a familiar set up and execution which relies on the chemistry of its leads.

Engagingly messy. It’s a bit slow in spots, but the "rotten" theme actually works. It would’ve been even better with a different female lead; Jenny Slate just isn't strong enough to carry a movie.

The things that the characters do to achieve their goals i did not like that at all, how controlling freak or how deceive people can be , and they are ready to ruin other people lives on that . And realisation that comes very late .

I think it has to resonate. You have to be a certain age, to have been the person scorned. You have to love an underdog and have an appreciation for musical theatre, I tick all the boxes and loved this film.

Did not expect to like this, but I did. In a long search for decent Rom-Coms here is one. Both leads are likable. Even though they get in the normal "crazy" situations, it was kind of reasonable to see how they arrived in that situation and it was entertaining enough to keep my interest. Jenny Slate and Charlie Day have a good chemistry and they both were easy to like in this. The resolution was actually reasonable and the end was solid. If you are looking for a decent Rom-Com (which can be hard to find) this is a good one among the sea of bad. You should give it a try.

Looking for a end of the end rom com, RT suggested me this one. So glad I watched it! It’s a funny, heart warming, well acted, with a fab soundtrack and sunny beautiful locations.
