Earnest character work by Plaza, Olson, and O'Shea Jackson Jr., stylistically relevant visuals, and emphatic themes surpasses the script's numerous pitfalls.

Relevant, timely, and uncomfortably close to home, Ingrid Goes West delivers a quirky, fun, brutally awkward, legitimately unsettling cautionary tale about influencer culture and social media obsession.

The people examined by the film are as paper thin as the pixels that make the images on their phones, and have as much depth as an evaporated gully.

Ingrid Goes West tells an engaging story with a strong, fascinating character study at the centre, but the film shocks with unbelievability towards the very end, and then, simply sends out a completely wrong message.

Unexplored potential aside, there is a deeper issue which casts Ingrid Goes West, for me at least, in a pale rather than neon light.

One of Plaza’s greatest talents is her ability to make you see and feel the most vulnerable parts of people—and this is beautifully on display in Ingrid.

This is creepy and unsettling in a very successful way.

Terrific movie that addresses social media obsession, mental illness. Aubrey Plaza is amazing as always. Even though she’s a "celebrity" stalker, you can’t help but feel for her. This is a credit to the writing, but very few actresses could pull this off like Aubrey does. Overall, a nice mix of comedy and drama. A must see if you like such things.

Telephone (internet) ADDICTION — Aubrey Plaza does it better in Emily the Criminal (2022) — Sandra Bullock does it better in 28 Days (2000).

This movie sucked. I understand that it’s supposed to be a dark satire about influencer culture and the desperate need for validation. But to me, the ending crossed a line from criticizing that obsession to almost validating it. Ingrid spends the entire movie desperately trying to become someone worth noticing. When everything falls apart, she turns her suicide into one final piece of content and the movie shows people watching, reacting, and engaging with it. Maybe the intention was to show how horrifying social media culture has become. But that's not how it felt to me. It felt like the movie was saying, "Even if you fail at everything else, you can still become famous through your death." That’s a pretty fucking awful message. I know it’s satire. I know it’s supposed to be uncomfortable. But if your criticism of influencer culture ends with suicide becoming the ultimate source of clout, I’m not sure what exactly I’m supposed to take away from that. 0/5.

Cynical feel-good ending that acts as an endorsement of suicide: try to kill yourself, stream it online, and everything will just work out. This film serves as a blueprint for many teen suicides
