Sandra C @MultiverseMoviegoer 6 days ago This is a slow burn psychological thriller. Black uses classic horror tropes to explore stagnation vs. mortality and escapism. The dread haunting Casey represents the inevitable crash of ignoring one’s mental health and unresolved past. While the title suggests a literal predator, the film’s strongest tension comes from the possibility that the monster is intrinsically tied to Casey's repressed memories. While occasional dialogue-heavy scenes slow the pacing and the open-ended ending leaves Casey’s final fate to viewer interpretation, It Hunts succeeds as a moody, atmospheric thriller that turns an ordinary life into a nightmare of suspicion and dread. See more Vanessa S @motherofmovies Sep 24, 2026 Debut feature It Hunts, streaming on Prime Video, is a slow-burn demonic puzzle about Casey, a night-shift phone salesman who can't tell whether he's haunted, unwell or guilty of a past he's forgotten. The best tension comes from that doubt. He wakes from dreams in which strangers meet horrible deaths. He also keeps seeing a crash that never happened. Casey (played by Izzy Martinez) sells the idea that a second presence is in control long before the film says so. The mythology stays vague and the payoff is messy, but Black keeps the dread building and never plays it safe, which is what you want from a first film. A watchable indie for fans of demonic horror. It drops brilliant little hints along the way without ever showing its hand too early. You'll find yourself completely hooked as each piece is uncovered, rooting for a twist that defies the obvious outcome. Bolstered by haunting, hyper-stylized visuals and a pulse-pounding score, director Gabriel Black crafts a memorable indie nightmare that keeps viewers thoroughly transfixed as Casey’s fragile reality gradually unravels in the dark. See more Amari A @Amari.Allah Sep 21, 2026 It Hunts starts as an intriguing psychological mystery, with Casey experiencing horrific visions that push you to wonder if this will be a horror film dealing with a character’s mental state rather than something more conventional. Then, when you add in Casey’s relationship with a woman named Alex, it gives the movie an unexpected emotional element. However, as the film shifts from being psychological to supernatural, it begins to become conventional and switches from the obstacle being Casey's mental health struggles to an actual entity that becomes the villain. This change causes the film to lose its luster, but thankfully there remained enough to appreciate the overall experience. 80/100 Originally published at Wherever I Look.
