Critics Consensus

Some will find the darkly funny, genre-bending incoherence of John Dies at the End charming; some will feel its zany antics and gore lead to an unsatisfying payoff.

The saving grace of John Dies at the End is undoubtedly its manic storytelling: the energy and pacing of scenes give the movie the impression of being told on the spot (which is of course what the framing device intends).

Gonzo freakiness in such doses that cult status is practically ensured.

I wouldn't count on the title giving you a leg up on the film's outcome.

This could, and maybe should, have been something we'd rave about and line up to see at midnight screenings for years to come.

This movie was the best it could be considering the source material. If you like to just shut off your brain and just enjoy the absurdity then This movie is for you. It's a dumb funny movie that deserves its cult following. If you want more read the book series because its just as hilarious.

My all-time favorite movie. Very original. Group of us dropped acid and watched it and had a hell of a night.

It’s a very decent watch; extremely goofy! Definitely not for everyone, but if you’re good to go with a trippy sci-fi that’s dumb fun, you’ll definitely enjoy this one.

I think this is a must see if: - you appreciate movie making over the story - you appreciate witty humor - you are open to a bit of extravagance If so… you’ll watch it more than one time!
