Aimless David Rice (Hayden Christensen) has the ability to instantly transport himself to any place he can imagine. He uses that gift to globe-trot, living on money he steals by "jumping" into bank vaults. He's captured by the evil Roland Cox (Samuel L. Jackson), who knows how to keep David from jumping. David escapes and reunites with his high school crush, Millie (Rachel Bilson), then forms an alliance with fellow jumper Griffin (Jamie Bell) and prepares for mortal combat with Cox.

The movie is okay and the concept is interesting. However, the main character is absolutely insufferable. He is also a pathological liar 😀 At the beginning, it’s easy to feel bad for him considering his unfortunate situation, but at some point you stop feeling bad for him and wish he would tell the truth for once, especially to the girl he is supposed to love. On a positive note, the British guy is a funny and entertaining character. I wish we saw more of him. The lore is interesting, but I feel like it’s not explained enough and there is too much focus on the romance.

Jumper taps into a familiar male fantasy: the idea of unrestricted freedom and the power of teleportation placed in the hands of a lone wolf protagonist navigating the world on his own terms. The film presents teleportation in a grounded way by also acknowledging the tangible effects such power would have on the real world around him, something that is rarely found in most science fiction films or comic book films about superpowered people ala Marvel and DC. Hayden Christensen’s performance is crucial in grounding this story. His presence carries the quiet confidence and restlessness that sell the premise for male viewers whilst providing an emotional core. Doug Liman's direction is expectedly thrilling, the visual effects are surprisingly good and David S. Goyer's screenplay tells a satisfying story within 88 minutes. The score by the lauded composer, John Powell is also noteworthy.

Brilliant! Highly entertaining. In the "professional opinion" perhaps not technically "good", but who cares? Great cast and they all shine in character. Writing needs attention perhaps. Good cinematography and visually stunning. Lots of action, absurdness, drama, emotion, intrigue and nagging "what if ...?" feeling 😜 Does not have to make sense to be entertaining hey?
