Critics Consensus

A dramedy featuring an unusual love triangle, Keeping the Faith is a perceptive look at how religion affects us in everyday life.

The film's distinction: it is neither dumb or vulgar, and its comedy comes from basic human emotions.

A romantic triangle dating movie as confected, and nearly as wholesome, as a '50s Universal bedroom farce, but lacking the confidence and zest.

It's light and affable, for the most part; it has a relatively novel premise, even if it's not really explored in depth; and it features three charming leads at a strong point in their careers.

Keeping the Faith is a charming romantic comedy that manages to feel warm, thoughtful, and just a little bit special. It blends humor and sincerity in a way that makes it easy to watch, even when the story leans into familiar territory. What works best is the chemistry between the cast and the way the film handles friendship, faith, and relationships without turning everything into clichés. It has a relaxed, comfortable tone, but still manages to deliver some genuinely sweet and funny moments along the way. It’s not a groundbreaking film, but it has a certain "almost perfect" feel in how balanced and heartfelt it is. Nothing feels overly forced, and it stays consistently enjoyable from start to finish. Overall, it’s a solid, feel-good watch with a lot of charm. I’d rate it a 7/10—a little bit imperfect, but very close to perfect in spirit.

My two faves Ben Stiller and Edward Norton in the same movie? I'm totally hooked! Norton directed this movie, and his talent as a director shined. His acting as a confused priest in love with his childhood best friend was sweet and charming. I like the themes of religious concepts combined with romance and drama. Norton does have a playful quirkiness to him when he acts in comedic roles, but he does better in more serious roles. A feel good romance movie to enjoy.

Why don't we have actors of this caliber anymore? Imperceptibly, I found myself mentally and emotionally invested in all the talking points because of their natural interactions. It was fun / it was pensive.

I ran across this gem only recently. Very sweet. A bit long, which is why I took off one star. But solid and endearing overall.
