A single mother and her two daughters return to Taipei after several years of living in the countryside to open a stand at a buzzing night market. Shih-Ching Tsou directed … this light drama about a 5-year-old girl (Nina Ye), her older sister (Shih-Yuan Ma) and her mother (Janel Tsai) who move to Taipei and open a noodle stand. … These three are survivors, and it’s a pleasure to get to know them.

My friend & I watched this on Netflix Canada. The language was dubbed to English which was helpful to us. The characters & storyline really kept us captivated...and had us rooting for the characters to have a better life. There were some laughs, and some somewhat shocking moments. It's a film that reminded me that life can be hard sometimes...and everyone is struggling in one way or another. A great look into Taipei...and life there. The actors were incredible.....I especially loved the little girl. I have seen many Chinese movies before so this didn't blow me away...but if you want something different & fun to watch this might be for you.

Incredible acting direction. Camera action at eye level of a child, which engages the viewer. Is this a movie you want to see again? Perhaps no. As opposed to Chunking Express, which adds more dimensions to its characters. Anyhow, Left-Handed Girl offers what a great movie should offer, and Tsou Shih-Ching is surely a name to remember. And should we mention the Sean Baker effect? 4.6 stars
