Tavernier, who is also a documentary maker, keeps things straightforward and heartfelt; he focuses on the ups and downs of training that bring the two closer before the race begins, but also knows how to give impact to the event itself.

I definitely recommend this movie, it might be predictable, but the story was amazing and inspiring. It really touched my heart at the end.

The performances are impressive, yet the overall plot is too simple to stir more in-depth emotions and serious spiritual reflections. The film is satisfying and get me touched, but still I have to say that it fails to elaborate on its uncommon topics like the mental status of the patients, their social lives, and the challenges of their family. It's just not enough. I feel it could do definitely more than only going through the contest itself.

Beginning: a common story. Middle: son and father getting together. Final: I cry with smile. It's not a great movie but it simply beautiful affirmation of pushing the boudaries and affirmation of family.
