The movie made me squirm with the transparency of its ideas, the dread predictability of its plot, and the shallowness of its characters. Go to Full Review

04/28/2020 I have always wanted to see this movie. I lived in Naples when it was being filmed. Actually saw Jack Lemmon and his wife at a restaurant one evening. Please ignore star rating as I have not yet seen the movie. See more 03/13/2013 WHen I was a teen I saw this and saw it again for the nostalgia. If you like sweet and sour italian movies like cinema paradiso - this one is for you. See more 01/30/2012 Another good old Jack Lemmon movie, this one not as old as it was 1985. Also lots of good and interesting shots of Naples Italy, as that is where the movie takes place, and Lemmon is actually the only American in the entire film (co-stars Mastoianni) which makes it more interesting. The plot is kind of crazy, but I like the difference, it is refreshing somehow to watch a movie that doesn't follow a standard line, as long as it is still believable. Check this one out. See more 09/04/2009 Jack Lemmon is always worth tuning into. He is one of those very very few actors who has never made an awful film. His teaming with Marcello Mastroianni is a good one and it is great to see two wonderful actors work together. The first half of the film is much better than the second half, but overall the film is worth watching. See more 02/18/2007 Jack Lemmon is always worth tuning into. Jack and Marcello play two World War II buddies reunited in modern day Naples, but this isn't a simple reunion. It seems that Antonio (Mastroianni) has been sending his sister forged letters from Robert (Lemmon) since the war ended. Originally, it was his way of helping his sister forget the American who left her behind. But after a while, Antonio got into it and kept it up for forty years. Now it's up to Robert, a jaded ulcer-ridden American executive, to try to live up up to the legend Antonio has created. This movie brought back memories of when I was a young sailor in stationed for two and a half years in Naples. That's not the reason that I rate it highly, but it is the reason that I watched it in the first place. You won't be disappointed if you watch this one! See more Read all reviews
