Don't misunderstand me, the 1927 Metropolis has its place in cinema history for good reason. The fact that they were able to do so much with the limited resources of time is what makes that movie a marvel to behold. But those same limitations is where this film can step in and succeed. There is no mystery of, "how did the filmmakers do that?" in this film, it was all animated. But there were times in the 1927 version where their ambition exceeded their grasp. Using some stellar animation, this film is able to put together a complete story. One with compelling ideas, likable characters and a really cool setting.
