Travis M @TMorg007 Jul 10 I knew Robert Deniro was in this and I watched it anyway. Well, as much as I could. I found myself checking my phone and actively looking for distractions for the vast majority of this failed effort of a movie. Deniro just plays the same bastard in every role ever. It's boring and redundant. Yawn, this is the kind of movie that makes you wish you could instead go read a shampoo label instead. It perfectly balances action, comedy, and character-driven storytelling in a way that still feels fresh and highly entertaining today. What really makes it stand out is the chemistry between the lead performances and the effortless mix of tension and humor. The film never feels forced; instead, it flows naturally from one moment to the next, keeping things engaging without losing its sharp edge or personality. It’s also impressive how well it was received critically, earning nominations at the 46th Golden Globe Awards for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Actor for De Niro, which reflects just how strong his performance is here. Overall, it’s a smart, rewatchable, and highly entertaining film that deserves its status as a classic. I’d rate it a solid 10/10. Some people apparently regard this film as among De Niro's best. Those people are likewise mistaken. Can’t understand the obsession with American movie makers with the F word. Hardly a sentence spoken without it. Appeals to adolescents, presumably. See more Matthew D @OceanSage Feb 26 I am delighted to discover another wonderful Robert De Niro film I had not seen. Director Martin Brest’s action-comedy Midnight Run (1988) is hysterical! Robert De Niro’s long suffering, angry bounty hunter Jack Walsh is a riot to watch. It’s especially fun to see Charles Grodin’s mob accountant constantly complaining to De Niro. Brest’s direction nails the guns blazing shootouts, while balancing the buddy comedy between De Niro and Grodin. Robert De Niro’s furious bounty hunter Jack Walsh is so clever, tough, funny, and frustrated that it’s simply delightful watching De Niro in this underrated comedy. De Niro is so naturally cool and menacing with a playful charm here. Charles Grodin is a scream as the ever complaining crooked accountant Jonathan Mardukas. He works so well at angering De Niro, while engraciating him. Yaphet Kotto’s annoyed FBI agent Alonzo Mosely is simply too funny. In all, Midnight Run is a surefire blast.
