Critics Consensus

Motor City's deliberate lack of dialogue occasionally backfires in a story that winds up running on fumes, but a rollicking soundtrack and visual panache soup up the engine enough to deliver a memorable ride.

Motor City contains around five lines from the opening moments to the end credits. Since there isn’t much in the way of conversation, the bruising combat scenes take center stage to head-spinning effect.

For movie-watchers who have wished that modern cinema was less reliant on boilerplate dialogue and tell-don’t-show exposition dumps, Motor City plays like a monkey’s paw curling in slow motion.

A compilation mixtape in search of a movie, "Motor City" is an almost entirely wordless action movie that assumes audiences will be happy with bare minimum plotting as long as a song they enjoy is playing.

Potsy Poncrioli's nearly dialogue-free revenge thriller is an ambitious idea, even if the execution is uneven.

What separates it from many of its contemporaries is its confidence. It believes Ritchson can tell a story with his face, silence, and a perfectly chosen '70s soundtrack as effectively as another screenplay might tell it with a page of exposition.

A different style of movie. I loved it. The level and lengths of petty John miller goes through to get his lick back is something I can get bahind. You wish he didn’t go through it but it feels good knowing that he avenged Sophia.

The people in my theater were super obnoxious so it was kind of difficult to fully enjoy and immerse myself in the movie but overall I really really enjoyed it and I love the concept.
