Maryam Moghaddam and Behtash Sanaeeha’s gentle romantic comedy dares to ask if Mahin actually wants to move through life unnoticed. Go to Full Review

A late narrative development swerves the meet-cute into less sure-footed terrain. But this remains an encounter to treasure, jollied along by quiet political protest and poignant notes on widowhood. Go to Full Review

Plans have a way of going awry in this lovely, intimate, tragicomic tale of late-blooming love in the shadow of Iran’s repressive regime. In its gentle way, this is a subversive piece of film-making. Go to Full Review

In this drama, far from forceful and laced with a certain lightness, there are beautiful shots, moving gestures, and weighty silences, but also a certain predictability and a pace that threatens to dilute the story's impact. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

It's impossible not to be fascinated by the purity, delicacy, and, ultimately, the decisiveness of a work like "My Favourite Cake," as brave as it is unique. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Eluxe M @RT69001096 5h I started this movie with high hopes. The acting was natural, the story promised to be heartwarming. I loved seeing an older woman take agency of her life. I loved the budding romance, the warmth of the male character. I loved the feeling of hope that grew inside of me. Then, like what feels like ALL modern movies, it had to turn to crap. It seems most modern directors just want us to feel demoralised and miserable after watching a film, and that's what you'll feel like at the end of this. I regret watching it to the end. See more Tolga K @TolgaKcgl 20h A film whose impact will linger for a long time. The inspiring generosity of true love takes center stage in this film... See more Amin S @RT54070545 May 30 A tender and simple tale—like a contemplative yet drunken sage, it lingers on life’s quiet sorrows. See more Afshin F @RT70456922 Apr 22 Great acting and the dialogs are very natural and real.. See more Catherine W @RT36313546 03/22/2025 I loved it. Shot within the confines of a repressive regime but tender, funny, and true to all our lives. My friends and I agreed it was the perfect relationship, ending before it became troublesome. See more Mia R @RT46624597 01/15/2025 My Favourite Cake offers a deceptively simple glimpse into a complex society and the intricate lives of its people as they navigate loneliness and aging. The film delicately captures the layers of human experience, and while viewers could read deeper into its nuanced themes, doing so isn’t necessary to appreciate its brilliance. Another thing that makes this film truly remarkable is the risk taken by everyone involved to create and share this slice of truth. Against the backdrop of its country’s realities, My Favourite Cake is a courageous act of storytelling that is as raw as it is beautiful. It’s a masterpiece of humanity—real, tender, and unforgettable. See more Read all reviews
