Critics Consensus

Mystic Pizza is like its namesake food: it's cheesy, topped with romance, and rises to the occasion.

Don't be put off by the ambiguous-sounding title and the lack of star names. Mystic Pizza is a marvelously warm and funny comedy-drama that is frankly sentimental but never cloying.

Thanks to sensitive direction by Petrie, the result is a thoroughly involving movie that doesn't resort to violence, sex or schmaltz to pack an emotional punch.

The film, like pizza in the title, is not nutritious but it is very tasty. [Full review in Spanish]

This is a really cute movie that doesn't play very well in 2025. It fairly contrived. That being said, it did have a certain charm seeing it in the theatres. I'm not going to keep it but wouldn't hold it against anyone for wanting to.

It is a classic, a warm romantic comedy, and a slow-paced movie. Everyone has a unique film and should watch it at least once. It is excellent for Autumn.

The nostalgic and romantic in me loved this. I had a great Pizza evening with first Licorice Pizza (which I also recommend) followed by this.
