Critics Consensus

George Lazenby's only appearance as 007 is a fine entry in the series, featuring one of the most intriguing Bond girls in Tracy di Vincenzo (Diana Rigg), breathtaking visuals, and some great ski chases.

Film of break-neck physical excitement and stunning visual attractions in which George Lazenby replaced Sean Connery as James Bond. Go to Full Review

Director Peter Hunt manages to inject some life into this 1969 exercise with a wonderful ski chase, but otherwise the film is a bore. Go to Full Review

Certainly no worse than the later Roger Moore efforts and, if only for curiosity value, is well worth a look. Go to Full Review

[George] Lazenby strikes a nice balance between self-aware humor and superspy action. It is still one of the best Bond films of all time. Go to Full Review

On Her Majesty's Secret Service remains a fine bond film. Where the story is not super engaging and the film overall does feel long, George Lazenby is fun enough as Bond and the story is just clean enough to where you can get a bit invested in it. Go to Full Review

keven q @kevenquinlan 4d I have no idea why Lazenby was panned before he even was screened. Listen, I like Connery and was glad ha had a late career resurgence, but I never thought he was all that and given the 'era' of cinema, I didn't think it required much acting. He was good- that's all. Lazenby I thought was Awesome. He was what Bond should've been. And the movie was the best they'd made so far. I hope everyone gets a chance to watch it b/c if you don't like it than NONE of Sean Connery's were any good. Nota:** **2 / 10** See more Ed B. @EdLee Jan 4 On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is pivotal in Bond franchise as we’re introduced to another player as 007 for the first time. It’s also unique that James Bond gets married in the film. Action is done well as one might expect. The setting is in Swiss Alps. Lot of machine guns and snow skiing. Pretty women of course. Also, Telly Savalas as Blofeld is cast perfectly. See more Yaaron R @KompetenterMedi Dec 16 A Stronger Bond Trapped in a Weak Formula On Her Majesty’s Secret Service introduces a more energetic and dynamic Bond, but struggles to escape the franchise’s most overused conventions. The endless Bond girls return with predictable twists and little chemistry, while much of the action lacks punch and relies on sped-up footage that feels unintentionally comedic. Still, the film shows signs of evolution: fight scenes are more elegant than before, and the ski chase stands out as a genuinely creative highlight despite messy camera work. George Lazenby brings a refreshing physicality to the role, making his short-lived run feel like a missed opportunity. Unfortunately, outdated attitudes and uneven execution hold the film back, leaving it as a step forward that never fully breaks free. See more Matthew T Nov 15 The most overrated Bond movie of all time. The jokes fall flat, the script is Austin Powers without the fun, gadgets are absent, and the action is sub just about every other entry (even the much lauded ski chase has been done better in the Spy Who Loved Me, World is Not Enough and... hey, I'd take View to a Kill over these clunky VFX). George Lazenby, though looking and sounding, is ultimately overshadowed by all actors fore and after. For some fans though, it's the greatest entry, probably largely because of the last shocking scene. But one tear jerk is not enough to justify wading through the rest of the movie. A physically imposing Blofeld and the divinely posh Diana Rigg are about all there is to recommend it. Remade in the almost equally poor Spectre and the somewhat superior No Time to Die, where the shocker of an ending is switched. It rests near bottom of my Bond rankings (Spectre alone is below), but I will say again that this movie does have its fans (bemusing as that is), possibly because of its more serious tone (but Dalton's Bond, and at times Craig's, does this FAR FAR better). Watch for historical interest only or if (like me) you are a diehard fan. See more Lanfranco C @Lanfrancobz Nov 8 The best Bond than ever! See more Read all reviews
