Critics Consensus

Paris Je T'aime is uneven, but there are more than enough delightful moments in this omnibus tribute to the City of Lights to tip the scale in its favor.

Taken as a whole, Paris Je T'Aime slips down easily enough and offers a few whimsical smiles, but you may find yourself craving more substantial nourishment before the end.

You expect quality to vary from segment to segment, but the misses outweigh the hits by a depressingly high margin.

The limited runtime of each vignette [...] doesn’t let any one note linger too long, meaning the anthology feels like a series of light, short courses rather than a gorge of something sickly.

Paris Je T'aime is a bit of a fiasco. Boasting an obviously large budget -- judging by the sharp production values and international cast -- the film does little to capture the magic of Paris, and rather comes off as a pretentious bore.

A wonderful film - it is a vibrant, shimmering love letter to Paris that warms the heart in ways that few films can.

A fantastic movie with many tales of love and romance. This all star cast that includes Natalie Portman,Steve Buscemi, Willem Dafoe, Nick Nolte,Elijah Wood and Maggie Gyllenhaal. All of the segments were good but my favorite featured Portman. New York is a beautiful city and this was the perfect place to film this movie. Tim Treakle

The best vignette was the one with Nathalie Portman, one of two others were ok and plenty of them were just plain bad. This is a below par, pretty dull offering. Does nothing for Paris’ reputation. Watched on DVD.

I like the mime's "Tour Eiffel" the most. Humorous, free and passionate. The tourist one played by Buchemi is a good satire, too. The Christopher Doyle's Chinese one is disturbing.

These type projects are invariably a mixed bag; of ways to approach the short form by the directors; genres (though very little variance here); but mostly in quality. My favorites are the wacky vampire short, with Olga Kurylenko and Elijah Wood, and Juliette Binochet as the grieving mother who receives surcease of suffering from a cowboy on a horse tromping les rues de Paris. The first and last vignettes were both very good as well. The weakest for me, were the Steve Buscemi one and one where a man is senselessly murdered a some worthless street urchin. Nice work overall, for a mixed bag. 3.2 stars
