Two decades after the original murders at the Bates Motel, Norman Bates completes his treatment at a mental institution and returns home to find his hotel run down under the management of Warren Toomey. Despite a new friendship with a waitress and a job busing tables at a diner, Norman begins to hear voices once again. No matter how hard he tries, Norman cannot keep "Mother" from returning and coaxing him to unleash the homicidal maniac within.

I think Anthony Perkins’s acting has gotten worse since the last Psycho, there are some moments where his performance is like amateur dramatics. Thankfully Meg Tilly is excellent so it evens out overall. The production quality is much higher than the previous film with far fewer issues with the plot and effects. It also looks really nice, like they have perfected the medium of film. It’s an interesting story and actually a good continuation of the original film but the pacing is not good. They keep hammering home plot points and character decisions. The stabbings are significantly better, really horrible to watch. It’s a fine film, average, less polarising than the first film. I didn’t like the ending, it lacked complexity or any moral cleverness.

i guess i was roundabout 14-15 when i watched this for the first time, i had a little crush on Meg Tilly and a VHS tape with Psycho 2 and The big Chill on it. Psycho 2 is a great sequel to Psycho, with a great cast (Perkins, Miles, Tilly, Franz, Loggia) twist and turns, off course it did not make the kind of history the first movie made, its just a very good movie.

A damn good movie, and quite possibly the best horror sequel ever. The 4 stars instead of 5 is because I wish it had a more upbeat ending.
