Huntin P @PaxVobiscum80 Sep 14, 2026 Woody completed a hot hat trick with Radio Days (1987), reportedly one of Stanley Kubrick's favourite films. Whereas 1985's The Purple Rose of Cairo was a bittersweet romantic fantasy set in the 1930s, and Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) was set in the present day, Radio Days harked back to the director's childhood in '40s Brooklyn. Radio was the main source of entertainment, and everyone in the movie's extended family has their own favourite show. Not being able to see forces the listener instead to imagine, and what dreams may come! Woody narrates but does not appear on camera, and for once the narration is neither intrusive nor a sign of weakness. This movie could almost be a kind of musical fantasia on 1940s pop. There are so many beautiful sequences, funny and charming and poignant. The entire cast is superb, it would be unfair to single anyone out, but Mia Farrow gives what is her funniest performance for Woody. Diane Keaton, however, steals the show, right at the end. Enchanting. See more Henry D @Henry_Domke Jun 15, 2026 We were smiling or laughing through the whole film. At one point Lorna said, "It’s transporting," and that was exactly right. The movie carried us into another time and place with warmth, humor, and affection. And then, on top of that, the period music was perfect. Song after song fit the scene so naturally that the music felt inseparable from the memories. With Woody Allen's distinctive stamp. See more nick s @Nick_S Nov 13, 2025 The acting is terrific, the scenes are alive and full of energy, there's a bit of humour here and there. But, as is typical of Woody's work, it's almost plot-less. Just a collage of colourful memories and observations of life. So if you're someone who loves a meaningful plot you might be as bored as me with this one. See more Kyle M @RT77296778 Jul 8, 2025 Woody Allen’s solidly passionate narration accomplished the time capsule aspect of the titular pastime, emitting much of the same resonance towards the music, but the fundamental narrative of connective threads is variously engaging at an inferior level that’s structurally indifferent albeit occasional humor and attributive nostalgic charm.
