Wow, what a daring and controversial opinion, I know. Sometimes a film can just be breezy fun about a countess taking a break from her duties before coming home gaining more agency who won't be told what she can and can't say. Somebody will probably do a better job than me talking about her character arc in a video essay one day. But yes, Roman Holiday is a sweet film, go watch it if you haven't already. Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn make a perfect duo – charming, playful, and believable. The humor still works, the pacing is smooth, and the whole thing has this warm, lighthearted atmosphere that makes it feel timeless. And then there’s Rome – not just a backdrop, but a character on its own. Those familiar streets and piazzas hit me with a wave of nostalgia, reminding me of my own trip to Italy. It’s not the greatest masterpiece ever made, but it’s definitely one of those films you can rewatch and feel comfortable in every time. Solid 8/10.
