Critics Consensus

An entertaining Jackie Chan stunt-fest in which the impressive action sequences overcome the low production value and by-the-numbers plot.

Chan's insistence on his own fallibility and vulnerability, taken with virtuoso scenes like the fight involving 101 domestic appliances, shows why he means more to his countless fans than six US action stars put together. Go to Full Review Jonathan Rosenbaum Chicago Reader Jan 28, 2004
It's light on plot and character, but the stunts are well staged. Go to Full Review Kenneth Turan Los Angeles Times Feb 13, 2001

Your typical Canadian tuxedo-wearing, fish-out-of-water, love-triangle-in-Vancouver-masquerading-as-the-Bronx, kung-fu, baby-throwing, hovercraft-evading kind of thing. Go to Full Review Jose Solís Common Sense Media Nov 11, 2025

Watching Jackie Chan in full command of his craft is pure joy. In Rumble in the Bronx, every fight feels like a perfectly choreographed dance; it's like watching a musical without the music, built entirely around his rhythm, grace, and sense of play. Bruce F @MoralMaster Jul 17, 2026 What's a great 90s movie who doesn't love jackie doing all his own stunts instant classic I love every movie he is in fantastic See more Pipe Smoking L @RT92467537 Jul 11, 2026 Chinese New York and more hilarious Chinese-perceived Americans! Violence, and the only actor on planet earth that tries to kill himself in every movie he makes! Jackie Chan breaks his foot off in real-time! The Chinese are the only people who can stage combat choreography. True story. Mildly attractive Chinese woman runs around screaming and frantic in her underwear. See more Jelisije J @jjosifovic Jun 10, 2026 We all came for the action scenes. The dialogue is embarrassing bad and the story was way to goofy for me to enjoy fully. See more Blake- N @PBSAniDom Apr 23, 2026 Rumble in the Bronx is a solid action-comedy that really shows why Jackie Chan became such a global star. The story is simple and mostly just serves as a setup for the action, but that’s not really a problem because the main draw is the stunt work and fight choreography. Jackie Chan brings his usual mix of physical comedy, creativity, and impressive practical stunts, which keep the film entertaining even when the plot is thin. The Bronx setting gives it a bit of a unique fish-out-of-water energy, and there’s a fun, energetic pace throughout most of the runtime. Some of the dubbing and acting outside of the action scenes can feel a little rough, but it doesn’t drag the movie down too much. Overall, it’s a very enjoyable action comedy that delivers exactly what it promises, even if it’s not especially deep or polished. I’d call it a strong, entertaining martial arts romp with great stunt work from Jackie Chan, earning a 7/10.
